Last one there's a rotten egg!

First musher into the checkpoint at Ruby gets a gourmet dinner, though whether that meal is for the person or the dogs isn't specified.

DeeDee Jonrowe was the first into Cripple, winning $3000 in gold nuggets for that feat. You go, grrrl!

The rest of the field is behind her at the moment, ranging from right on her heels in Cripple all the way back to Nikolai.

Well, you do get 3,500 one-dollar bills with the meal in Ruby, so leaving a tip shouldn't be a problem.

I had the great privilege of hearing Pam Flowers speak at the local Sierra Club. Racing is not her forte... I believe she ran the Iditarod once, for the experience... but she made a solo expedition following the route of the Fifth Thule Expedition, and has also made it to the magnetic North Pole. She writes and gives presentations a lot. She is one of those rare inspirational speakers who are actually, um, inspiring.

If I had to make that strenuous run, I wouldn't care if the gourmet meal was doggie or human food. Yum!

i've sampled some of my pets' foods before; some of them aren't too bad.

i've also reciprocated by letting the pets sample my foods too. the overwhelming vote seems to be in favor of people food, but none of us here at chez hipparchia has ever run that far before, so who knows?
