thanks. yeah, a lot of sunshine just went out of my life this morning.
the age is just a guess, based on what the vet estimated when i adopted him. the dog and curmudgeon cat and i had been a team for only ~12 of those years, but even that much is just about a lifetime in kitty cat years.
yes, regal describes his attitude, definitely he was king cat around here. that's a cat bed that he's perched on, but he refused to sleep IN it [turned right side up], only ON it [turned upside down]. i guess the sides, low as they are, blocked the sunbeams.
OT, don't talk it around, but I think Stella is almost emotionally ready to adopt another cat after her loss of Tabitha and then Samantha in such quick succession. Her vet has a 1-year-old female who is nursing 5 kittens; when they are weaned, we are lined up to take the momcat home with us. She comes pre-equipped with a dogawful name: Esther Bunny. But she is a really, really sweet cat, and I think I can manage to lose the "Bunny" part of the name...
thank you, steve. in spite of my nickname for him, he was a huge source of metaphorical sunshine in my life [although he tended to hog all the actual sunshine for himself :)].
esther is a fine name [i think you could manage to lose the bunny part too] with, among other possibilities, maybe deriving from the persian word for star.
i remember when my two old dogs died within a year or so of each other, and how devastating, and lonely, it was. i wasn't ready for another dog, but the present fluffy black dog was living at the vet's, he needed a home, and i needed a friend, and after a few months nobody else had adopted him, so....
these things happen when they happen, but i'll keep my fingers crossed for the possible esther/stella match-up.
Aw, hipparchia, I am sorry -- and sorry I didn't see this sooner. Thank you for being such a good companion to Curmudgeon Cat for so long.
Elderest kitty and my buddy Rushlight have been with me since their kittenhood, the spring of the year The Lion King came out ... I fear I shall not have them both for much longer.
May the soul of Curmudgeon Cat find the summerlands -- and may your memories of him always be joyful ones.
He is a beauty -- could be, except lacking the white spats on front paws, a twin to a good friend of mine, Thomas Sullivan Magnicat, also a sunseeker of ginger persuasion.
The best thing about humans is that we can love other animals, and the best thing about them is that they can return the favor. I don't know why that surprises me, since I know we're all cousins. I'm sorry you lost your cousin.
this makes me smile... you and i know we're all cousins [even if all the id-ers don't], but i gotta tell ya - curmudgeon cat would have eaten with great relish anything covered in feathers.
and yes, on a more serious note, it still surprises me too, and i've always been one who prefers the company of cats [dogs, horses, hamsters, snakes, fish, frogs, ...] to the company of humans.
awww, pc, i'm so sorry to hear about your loss too. they really do become best friends and family members, don't they? and thanks for your warm thoughts.

I'm so sorry to see this, Hipparchia. It is always tough to lose one, but after twenty years...

Aw, so sorry to see you've lost a fur comrade. 12 years is truly a long time.
Love the photo of the regal sunsoaker with such elegantly crossed paws.
thank you, ellroon.

I am so very, very sorry, hipparchia, to read of Curmudgeon Cat's passing. He has brightened your life and the pages of your blog; I shall miss him.

Somewhere, out there, I hope they wait for us.
hi, mandt. i sure hope so too.
If I make it to twenty cat-years, I intend to nurture a mighty curmudgeonliness myself. Not a bad run, but very sorry to hear it.
thanks, keifus. he had a good life, both here and with his previous family [who were unable to keep him].

me too! 20 cat years is supposed to be ~96 people years. here's hoping we all make it there.

The Other Sarah
thanks, sarah. yes, the words handsome devil could have been written just for curmudgeon cat.
Thomas Sullivan Magnicat
what a terrific name!

Godawmighty. I just lost one too, so I know what it's like. Warm thoughts your way.
