Run, ntodd, run!

Todd Pritsky, whom you may already know as ntodd, ntodd, ntoddpax, or ntoddpax is running for state office in Vermont.

This is way cool, cool enough to almost make want to move to Vermont. Maybe after a little more global warming.

Help him out any way you can.

Oh, look! Blogger loves me after all!

I haven't a clue what's been going on lately, but Blogger has not wanted me to blog apparently. Which hasn't been a real hardship, since real life hasn't wanted me to have time for blogging either.

To catch up...

The dog is doing much better, though only time will tell if this is a remission of something serious or a clearing up of something [mostly] innocuous.

Curmudgeon cat is the same, still too thin, but 100% himself personality-wise, and elbows all the others out of the way whenever food is involved.

Speaking of food, I think I've mentioned that several of the interloper cats like brushing even more than they like yummy food, and a few of them won't come out of hiding for either of those enticements. I have finally found a foolproof method for counting noses on nights like this, when the weather is cold and rainy and expected to turn to ice, sleet, and snow. Catnip. It turns out that all 27 cats are drug fiends. And no, I don't think I have 54 cats, it's just that it looks that way when I bring out the herb supply. Meanwhile, all 136 of them are safe inside tonight.

Helping Haiti

Whenceforth Progress, on neighbors helping neighbors:

The Dominican Republic, which shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti, is trying to send aid to Haiti. The nation is also bringing injured survivors out of Haiti to its hospitals.

and on donations:

If you’re listening to MSNBC they’re talking about not clicking email links or doing web searches for ways to donate, because (scumsucking profiteers) con artists and virus makers are using those methods to infiltrate, attack, counterfeit and hijack donations.

The places to go? home pages like the ones for the Red Cross/Red Crescent, Mercy Corps, or Shelter Box. Secure donations can be made there, or you can find toll-free numbers to donate.

Bryan, also on neighbors helping neighbors:

That’s the Humanitarian Service Medal. It counts for promotion like any other “Service” medal. The mission to Haiti will rate its reward to those who participate in the operation.

[...]

I’m happy to see that the USS Bataan is leading the amphibious group. The Bataan is the vessel that followed Katrina in the Gulf and was ready to immediately supply New Orleans with assistance, but Rumsfeld refused to allow it for days.

When you see what the US military can and will do to merit their HSMs in Port au Prince, think about the difference they would have made if Rumsfeld had sent them to NOLA, a thousand miles closer.

And how did you spend your Saturday night?

I spent mine at the doggie emergency room.

We are back home now, the dog's staggering around scared all the cats, but I've managed to convince him that lying quietly on his blanket really will help with that spinning-room feeling, and now if he'll agree to just not throw up again for a half-hour or so until the dramamine can take effect... [been there, done that, vertigo is teh suxxor].

Looks like it's probably old dog vestibular, which resolves itself in a week or two, but gosh that was a lot throwing up he did earlier this evening, so he got some fluids too while we were at the vet.

Any interrupted blog and email conversations will have to resume after I've had a nice long nap.

Becaue I like Dan Gelber

I'll post his latest plea for donations.

Friends-

Over the last two weeks, the Legislature was called into a Special Session to settle critical issues regarding mass transit throughout our state. The legislature bans fundraising during Session, but a loophole exists for “prescheduled” fundraisers. Because I felt it was only right to put my entire focus on my job as a legislator, I decided not to avail myself of the loophole and canceled all my fundraisers during the Special Session. I was the only candidate in this race to do so, and now I really need to make up for lost ground.

If you haven’t contributed to the campaign yet, I could really use your support now.

Fundraising is not a virtue, but in a state as large as Florida it is a necessity. Sorry for the hard sell but I’m proud of the way my campaign is conducting itself, and hope you are to. We need leadership that is not business as usual – and I hope you’ll support me because you believe that I will be different.

If you have already contributed please consider helping out again and passing this on to your friends and family.

Thanks again and have a terrific holiday season.

Dan

Continuing the theme

of cars and birds and toasty warm backsides...

I haven't won the lottery yet, so no heated seats for me yet, and besides, for less than $500 I got new brakes, a new battery, and the transmission fixed. Cheapskate that I am, no way can I bring myself to get rid of a car that both starts and stops on command, even if it closing in on a quarter million miles.
