What a difference a Friedman unit makes

One of my New Years Resolutions for 2007 was to lobby Congress [okay, send them e-mails] about the farm bill, health care, the Mideast [just for starters]. It's not something I kept up with, but I got a few replies. Form letters to be sure, but replies nonetheless. Six months ago the good [and not so good] people of Congress didn't exactly see it my way. Now, though, they're singing a different tune.

We'll see what happens.

Of course, Martinez and Nelson aren't exactly Kennedy, either. But you're right; there seems to be a real change during the intervening Friedman unit.

I used to write letters and track replies all the time. Lately I've felt too tired/lazy/discouraged, mostly tired. I really appreciate your continuing the effort. Maybe I shall live to see this war end after all...

[tkuavow - took you a vow?]

i wouldn't go so far as to say vow. and of course, nelson and martinez are far from being a kennedy of any stripe, but i'm betting even kennedy wouldn't have sent that particular letter out 6 months ago.

Good for you!

Perhaps you’ve heard this little ditty from Rhymes for the Irreverent:

“To stop a bullet”
“It’s a soldier’s job,” they say.
And so you stop a bullet
And then they stop your pay.

Should I write my congressman?

My friend, a Congressman has two ends: a sitting end and a thinking end.
And since his job depends upon his seat, why bother?

Maybe Congress is using the thinking end now—for a change?

rhymes for the irreverent are always welcome!

i dunno, nick. if they've had their thinking ends stuffed up their sitting ends for too long, the damage might be irreversible.

then again, maybe it's just that they really are that slow, and it's taken them all this time to get mad enough to start doing something. i hope so.
